Scott Feldt, East Moline's director of economic development, will resign effective in March in order to campaign for state treasurer in his home state of Wisconsin.

Mr. Feldt, hired by East Moline in 2008. announced his candidacy Monday in Wisconsin. He will submit his resignation to the city council next week, Mr. Feldt said today. Running for a statewide office is a dream come true, he said. "It has always been something that's kind of a life-long ambition," he said. "I had received some phone calls asking if I'd be interested in running. So I had a long discussions with my wife and family, did a little praying and soul searching and decided to give it a shot.

"Mr. Feldt will remain in his East Moline post until March."I truly enjoy the people I work with and for. East Moline has a lot of exciting things coming down in 2010. I am in no way unhappy with my job here," he said. "There are still a lot of projects that need to be wrapped up. "Because of the respect I have for the people I work with and the town, I'm not going to leave all these projects undone. I want to make sure they're wrapped up and put to bed."

No action has been taken thus far to recruit a new director of economic development, East Moline Mayor John Thodos said."I'm going to have to get direction from the city council," he said. "We wish Scott well. He's had this desire to be part of higher elected office, and I can certainly understand that. At this point no decisions have been made about replacing him."

Mr. Feldt moved to the Quad-Cities from Janesville, Wis., where he still owns a residence. Mr. Feldt formerly served as executive assistant to the Wisconsin state treasurer and county supervisor of Rock County, Wis. He received bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public policy and public administration from the University of Wisconsin at Madison
